Final Year Project: Combining LEGO with AI
Target: Using AI models to assist in generating LEGO character models.
By utilizing contrastive loss, training AI models for text-based image retrieval and image-based image retrieval was accomplished. There are over 1000 pairs of text and corresponding image data, and 40,000+ pairs of image and image data. Finally, the top-3 accuracy of text exceeds 60%, the top-1 accuracy of text exceeds 10%, and the top-10 accuracy exceeds 50%. Additionally, preprocessing of data for training Stable Diffusion was completed.

AI Training: Kaggle Competition
During this year's deep learning course, I participated in two Kaggle competitions. The first competition was about image classification, where we trained various CNN models such as ResNet series, AlexNet, and GoogLeNet. Ultimately, the Inception model achieved 84% accuracy, placing 9th out of 43. The second competition focused on protein sentence classification. We trained a pre-trained BERT model, achieving around 97% accuracy and securing the 2nd position out of 43.

Mobile Development: Android application
In a course project, I collaborated with two team members to develop an Android app named NaviRoute. This app is designed to guide users through their routes. I was responsible for creating the home fragment and integrating it with other fragments to display route information. I developed core features using Java and the Android SDK, including map display, route planning, and real-time navigation. Additionally, I designed and implemented the user interface to ensure a user-friendly and responsive experience.

Custom LEGO Model Production
Within the company focused on custom LEGO model production, I oversee AI algorithm development and data structure conversions. Leading a project team, we generated complete LEGO models from user images. I delegated tasks to designers for data preprocessing and model synthesis. Successfully, we implemented retrieval and synthesis of component models. Addressing printing deviation issues, I trained linear regression models. I also managed rendering performance, model data restructuring, and other optimizations.

ThingX Technologies Limited (2024.06–present)
AI Algorithm Engineer
Thermal Fall Detection Device
At ThingX Technologies Limited, I led AI model development for a thermal camera–based fall detection system targeting elder care. To address hardware constraints (RV-1106 chipset, 62Ă—80 resolution), I transitioned the approach from single-frame to temporal multi-frame detection and introduced Temporal Convolutional Networks (TCN), replacing RNN models to better fit limited resources. Later, I integrated YOWO (You Only Watch Once) as an end-to-end solution, achieving ∼80% precision through iterative optimization. Currently, I manage the entire algorithm pipeline, from research and prototyping to deployment.

Emotion Detection Necklace
Developed the complete emotion recognition algorithm for a wearable emotion-detection necklace. Designed and trained a lightweight 4-class emotion recognition model, achieving 94% accuracy while optimizing for mobile deployment. Delivered an efficient solution that runs in real time on smartphones.

ThermiKit: Thermal Analytics Stack
Developed ThermiKit, a plug-and-play thermal analytics stack integrating detection, pose estimation, and tracking on low-cost LWIR cameras. Built a multi-camera thermal dataset and fine-tuned YOLO models, maintaining real-time operation on resource-constrained edge devices.

ContriCare: Rural Eldercare Communication Tool
Conducted a mixed-methods study on rural ageing in China; co-designed and prototyped ContriCare, a recognition-driven help platform for elders. The prototype integrates smart speakers, IoT safeguards, and lightweight incentive mechanisms to enhance social recognition, trust, and neighborly support in village communities.
